Talking about Generation Y
RSS FeedsGeneration Y, also known as the Net Generation and the Millennials, are those born between the late 1970’s and late 1990’s and have grown up in the nineties and noughties. They are a result of the baby boomers and Generation Jonesers, born in the 1940’s and 50’s, settling down and raising children. They have grown up in a unique environment, very different from that of the baby boomers and their parents. This includes:
Generation Y, also known as the Net Generation and the Millennials, are those born between the late 1970’s and late 1990’s and have grown up in the nineties and noughties. They have grown up in a unique environment, very different from that of the baby boomers and their parents. This includes:
- Economic prosperity – especially in the UK and US, this group have not yet lived through an economic depression, recession or large scale unemployment.
- Greater family breakdown – with higher divorce rates and most homes with 2 working parents, the importance of family relationships has changed for this group.
- Education – higher costs with an expectation of higher education. The value of qualifications is greater than ever.
- Different climates in different countries – there have been some very new cultural experiences among this population. For example, a whole generation of Chinese have grown up as only children due to the one child policy.
