Over 95% of the FTSE 100 companies use psychometric testing to select their staff.

Over 95% of the FTSE 100 companies use psychometric testing to select their staff, as do the police, the civil service, airlines and even football clubs such as AC Milan which has used profiling to understand what motivates its players. So why has this form of selection become so integral to the recruitment process? And where did it all start?

We've put together some points which will hopefully answer those questions. In the podcast, Claudine Love, from Guardian Jobs, gives us some background to where this idea of testing comes from. Then Roger Philby and Isabelle Hung discuss some reasons why using psychometrics are a good method for selecting the right staff. After that Ian Thomas, from Cable and Wireless reveals how profiling helped him when he faced a change of direction in his career.
