Binfield Banzai Match Report Week 5
RSS Feeds
Another week, another fixture. Confidence was running high before this week’s game – not because of the Banzai’s ability but because of the pre game team bonding involving a number of shandies. This week’s opponents were the solid outfit that beat the Banzai in their first outing, so revenge was very much the order of the day. The team lined up: Swain, McKinnon, Philby, Cooper, Taylor and Quayle.
The first 5 minutes of the game involved a lot of ball chasing for the Banzai, however, the positional discipline was second to none and the opposition were struggling to break them down. Every player was putting a shift in. Cooper was snapping at heels like a terrier and his persistence paid off when his tackle and pass in the final third, set Quayle through on goal and the lad showed his pedigree, slotting the ball home. Celebrations were short lived as the opposition grabbed a quick goal back, cancelling out all of the Banzai’s hard work.
It was all square at half time so the lads had it all to play for. The guys kept their discipline and refused to rush the game, pressing the opposition and waiting for them to make mistakes. McKinnon and Philby were dealing with everything at the back and anything that did creep through was being dealt with superbly by Swain. More persistent work from Cooper led to another chance for Quayle that he took with ease. Again, however, the opposition replied soon after to level the score at 2-2 and that was the way it stayed. Both teams had chances to win it at the death but overall it was a fair score line.
I am often guilty of using a tiny bit of artistic license when writing these reports, however, this week I am not exaggerating when I say that Swain was a hero in goal. Some of the mans saves were out of this world and he was most definitely man of the match.
The guys now have a week off so check back in a few weeks to find out how the season is progressing!
